qualitative and quantitative approach

Quantitative and qualitative research approach
• There are two basic approaches to research :

1. Quantitative "uses the collection and analysis of data to answer research questions and test hypotheses previously established and relies on numerical measurement , counting and frequent use of statistics to pinpoint behavior patterns of a population " ( Hernandez et al , 2003, p.5 )

Two . The qualitative " usually is first used to discover and refine research questions. Sometimes, but not necessarily, hypotheses are tested . Often relies on data collection methods without numerical measure , as the descriptions and observations " ( Hernandez et al , 2003, p.5 )

Both use similar and interrelated phases :

1. Observation and evaluation of phenomena

Two . Establishment of ideas as a result of ( 1)

Three . Proof of the basis of ( 2)

April . Revision of ideas based on ( 3)

May . Proposition cimentarlas new observations to generate original ideas or other

Usefulness of both approaches :
Conduct monitoring and evaluation of events or phenomena Following these observations establish assumptions Trying to prove to what extent these assumptions are unfounded Use forms of analysis to establish these assumptions or comments Suggest new investigations based on the results obtained.

Usefulness of quantitative approach :
An idea , which transforms into research questions , which then derive hypotheses. Develop a plan to test these hypotheses .

Usefulness of the qualitative approach :
Qualitative studies involve the collection of data using techniques that are not intended to associate measurements with numbers. Among the techniques used in this approach are informal observation , open interviews , document review , group discussion , stories of life and many others. Qualitative studies unlike quantitative not intended to generalize from the results to broader populations because they are not interested in obtaining representative samples . Are based more on an inductive process , ranging from the particular to the general.

Qualitative research is also guided by ideas or significant issues , but instead of previously formulated hypothesis that channel the data collection plan , they can develop research questions before, during or after data collection .

The most appropriate type of research would be linked approach to qualitative but for best results should be performed both
